Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Carrie Bonds
Dr. Carrie Bonds is originally from Homewood, Alabama, she is the oldest of three children. She graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry at UAB School of Optometry in 2009. She has now lived in Tuscaloosa, AL for 15 years with her husband, two daughters, and 2 schnauzers.
Since 2014, Dr. Carrie has owned and operated The Family Eye Group. She most recently has opened her office on Jack Warner Parkway NE. She enjoys serving patient in Tuscaloosa and surrounding communities. Dr. Carrie uses her expertise to promote eye health, diagnosing conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.
She enjoys caring for patients of all ages, ranging from babies to seniors. Dr. Carrie particularly enjoys fitting contact lenses including specialty contacts. She loves helping her patients improve their vision to its best potential.
Dr. Laura Bonds
Dr. Laura Bonds was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, as the middle child of a close-knit family, where she still lives with her husband and two beagles. She graduated from Homewood High School before receiving her English degree from Birmingham Southern College in 2006. Next Laura attended UAB School of Optometry graduating in 2014.
Afterwards, she joined her sister Carrie at The Family Eye Group, where she has practiced for the past 10 years. She has enjoyed serving patients of all ages. She has experience with complex contact lens fittings, glaucoma evaluations, diabetic eye exams and more. She also enjoys fitting patients with the perfect glasses prescription to help them achieve their visual goals.
She has spent 10 years caring for her patients in Tuscaloosa and surrounding communities. Dr. Laura has delighted in getting getting to know the patients.
Dr. Melanie Chaney
Dr. Melanie Chaney's optometry journey began in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, inspired by her first eye exam. After high school, she worked at a local optometry office, learning eyewear fitting and patient care. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Akron and her optometry degree from Ohio State University, completing a significant mentorship and externship along the way. She practiced in northeast Ohio for nearly 20 years, volunteering globally with OneSight.
In 2020, Dr. Chaney moved to Alabama and joined The Family Eye Group, continuing her commitment to patient care. Her career in Ohio included serving in private practices and various medical facilities, enhancing her extensive experience in the field.
Outside of work, she enjoys photography with her husband, wood carving, and Tai Chi. Her active personal life complements her professional dedication, keeping her connected with her community and family.
